STUCK EVEN LONGER NOW IN CAMPBELLTOWN HOSPITAL’S EMERGENCY DEPT.

Not the greatest news at the height of the silly season, but patients are now waiting longer to leave Campbelltown Hospital’s emergency department compared to 12 months ago, according to the latest Bureau of Health Information quarterly report.

“This latest report really does highlight the dire situation facing Campbelltown Hospital’s emergency department,” Campbelltown MP Greg Warren pointed out.

“Almost 21,000 patients flowed through the doors of Campbelltown Hospital’s ED in in July, August and September this year – 1700 more than the same time last year. “

Mr Warren is deeply concerned that these stats reflect an over-worked and under-resourced department where demand far outweighs supply.

The July to September 2018 report showed the median time to leave Campbelltown Hospital’s ED was three hours and 47 minutes, however the July to September 2019 figures revealed that median time had increased to four hours and 20 minutes.

Only 46.8 per cent of patients left the ED within the desired four hour period compared to 58.7 per cent during the same period last year.

“The staff in our ED do a tremendous job given the lack of resources and support provided to them by this NSW Liberal government – but they can only do so much,” Mr Warren said.

Shadow Minister for Health Ryan Park (in the pic with Mr Warren) noted that the Government’s neglect of our public health system had real and painful consequences for people all across NSW.

Put some money into reopening the after hours GP clinics again, that cater for peak presentation times/days

So how can we do something to stop this , why not support a hold on develomoment until our hospital can cope or are people going to have to start to die first

It's A&E "Accident an Emergency" not "Anything an Everything" 🤷‍♀️ too many people present there when they could really go to the doctor 🤔

That’s if you can even find a parking spot. My son required surgery a few weeks ago and after spending 30 minutes trying to find a parking spot a good 10 minutes walk with a scared child and then organising to pick up a child who couldn’t walk after surgery was a nightmare. The area is larger than the facilities can cope with

I walked through there at 5pm tonight, and the waiting room was full. Seriously, do people not know about medical centres? This is exactly why waiting times blow out to the ridiculous. Please consider if you have an "emergency". If not, then don't go there, clog up the system then complain you had to wait for hours to see a doctor.

why cant we make Camden an emergency department too take pressure off the drs at Campbelltown

Interesting how this is happening, yet public health gets cut by $250million..

What do we expect when we have had such a population explosion over the last couple of years.I agree that After Hours GP needs to be reopened somewhere in the hospital and that would help cut the waiting time.

I’m 62 years of age, when I was 10, I broke my right arm and went to Liverpool hospital emergency, I was there for over 6 hours, so in 52 years it’s better, not much, but it’s better. Let’s not forget that the population has increased tenfold since then.

Greg I was in hospital last month and I have to wait 10 hours just to see a doctor and I was bleeding heavy and the nurses said they told me to wait until a doctor comes available

After hours medical should re open and hospital.should be able to send people there if it's not life threatening or an emergency ... there are lots of medical centres open late now go there first unless it's life threating ... The doctors and nurses are behind those walls trying to save peoples lives literally people being resuscitated.. people having major heart attacks .. don't go there for a sore toe or your kid has a virus that a gp can Deal with... call a home doctor if u need to .

Yet they still keep building the sardine size housing estates and cram as many people in as they can..

The answer is another public hospital in 28 years i have lived in mt annan look at the growth between here and liverpool .

They should upgrade Camden Hospital ... badly needed ... the Emergency Department there isn't equipped to handle a lot of cases at the present time.

Gregory Hills or Oran Park need a public hospital, especially with the new aerotropolis being built. We need to think ahead.

4 hrs that's quick 😂 Usually 6hrs +

Only a month ago I needed to be taken to Campbelltown hospital emergency then admitted for 3 nights, the staff in the emergency department were fantastic, the nurses in the ward were fantastic, the paramedics that got me there were fantastic, all of the staff were, I cannot thank them enough for the way they looked after me and the way they are dedicated to there profession, thank you all

I'm just thinking how many actually needed the emergency and were admitted ?

Its not just wait times that need looking into I had emergency surgery and paperwork was not written with proper after care instructions to my gp I was also "discharged" from A+E with no notes on my file paper or electronic an no discharge letter only triage notes , on a few occasions this puts patients at risk of mismanagement of care how can a gp or patient follow up with nothing to go on and no records? I also was told in emergency that they didn't have the right dressing because they didn't have the resources ? BASIC things that need to be reviewed by whoever is in charge

People are visiting Casualty instead of their GP’s, because there are not enough GP’s. In our day my husband worked days and nights and patients were kept out of Cas unless necessary. Doctors all rostered to cover the night work and it worked well.

Open a Medical Centre at the hospital and triage ALL non emergency pts to the Medical Centre.

I think is gets congested because too many people go there for ailments that can be treated by local GPs and then complain they have to wait hours. They are assessed by Triage and seen in order of priority. It’s an Emergency Department not a doctors waiting room !

We've been unfortunate to having to go to emergency with a child who ended up being admitted on most occasions and i have to say the wait time hasn't been that bad but sometimes I also see people there tat perhaps could go to a GP rather than emergency. Maybe the after hrs GP is the answer.
